If you burned at 4x then, 4x is the write stratgey.
This what I know about write strategies.
A burner uses different strategies for different media and speeds. A burner may burn a 4x disc at 4x speed differently to the same disc burned at 2x. It is to mimimise errors. BY uypdating the firmware, the write strategy can be changed. So, it is a way of improving the burners abilties in burning poorer media or at better speeds.
Some new burners (don't know which ones) has built in write stragey technology. It can improve its abilties to burn a DVD properly. It may end up creating coasters as it burns better (although I have never heard of that). The burners can also change the strategy to make it better as it burns, if the disc is not that great.
The strategies will also be different for each make of burner even if the same disc is used.
