I'm a newbie to this so I'm sorry in advance if this is a fairly simple question. I downloaded a dvd off of the internet and when I opened the folder it was all .vob, .bup, and .ifo files. I tried burning it onto a dvdr with imgburn and dvddecrypter as it is and through the read and write iso method. I tried it on windvd and nothing happened and when I tried to open one of the .vob files on its own windvd told me that the file number 1 has invalid format. I opened the dvd I burned and its in the same .vob, .bup, and .ifo files. Can anybody help me with playback of this dvd?

You need to make an ISO out of it. Either use Nero to burn (Burn DVD-Video files), or download PgcEdit. In PgcEdit, click File-Open and open your DVD folder, click Yes to all errors. Then click File-Create ISO/Burn DVD. Then specify where you want the ISO to go and click OK. Wait for it to finish. Then try burning with ImgBurn, it should work.
Or, try using Nero ShowTime or Media Player Classic to play the file, but only open VIDEO_TS.IFO. Do a Google search for all these programs to download them - Nero is not free but you can get a trial
And just note that this forum doesn't really support downloading DVDs off the Internet because it's illegal 99.9% of the time. Feel lucky that I am helping you
The reason it gave you errors is because it was downloaded - one of the files may be corrupt. Try these methods I gave you, if that doesn't work than your downloaded DVD is corrupt.CYA Later:
