I've used DVD Shrink and DVDD for well over a year with no issues, but up until recently my playbacks have been filled with Pexelation and skippage. Is the media I'm using to blame or can the DVD rw (TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B GA04) itself go bad. Looking on the list of media, I have been using third rate stuff (CMC MAG-M01-00) pretty much from day one. Does is make that much difference? Thanks.
Does the Media make that much of difference?

You can visit this Media Quality site to read what they have to say. Media has everything to do with how well or badly a burn goes. There are also other things that can affect the quality of your backup. You should read BluTach's Golden Rules of Burning for details that will be of help.
Edit - And I would do what drfsupercenter says and get Verbatim DVD+R but be sure you get the 16X because last I heard the quality of the 8X ones weren't really up to par.
