All my standard burns are at 8x. That just happens to be the best,
accepted scan speed for my Benq 1620, you have the scanner I missed.
It's even better than my Benq, but not as good a burner. When you scan at
max you run the risk of measuring read errors not write errors.
The best accepted scan speed for your 1693 is 4x, your PIF's will be lower
because the liteon's use a smaller scan interval, cdspeed calculates the QS
    accordingly.

I don't understand this, the quality says that the verbatim is a lot worse than the memorex at 4X.

I just bought some cheap KHypermedia discs @ Officemax. MIT, but same exact code as verbatim (MCC004's)

            $12.88 for 50.

I just question the validity of the Verbatims if no one has done any tests in awhile. The Verbatims are MCC, but still made in Taiwan, which leads to the factory probably still makes DVD's for other companies, but for whom?

            My DVD's... seriously.

              uteng,
You've got a good pair of burners, but don't try to compare apples and oranges. Now let's slow our testing down and establish some baselines.
One of the first things I established was 4x burns on 16x media with modern
burners/firmware weren't as good as 8x burns. If you're gonna use the nec to scan then try scanning at 8x also. Some have had to go to 12x with these
              scanners.(nec 3550/4550) having a 97-99 disk to test helps

Can you please tell me what might be going on? Both these disks failed. 1 memorex 16X burned at 8X 2nd is a verbatim 16X burned at 8X

nec and the liteon in the same computer?
Post a nero log of the nec burns?

ok, I guess it is nero, cause it has the nero icons when I put it through fixVTS, sorry, like I said I'm new at this. I'll try to figure how to post the log. When I do re-author and backup in dvd shrink, it is using something else to burn?
