    Thanks again Chewy.

So I'm assuming that backup the eeprom is also a good idea?

I just got home from work and when installing the firmware BSOY patch as suggested by Chewy I get and error:
      No matched drive detected!
This utility is only for LITE-On DVDRW SOHW-1633S Drive.

      Detected drives:
      4-0-0-0 E:Sony DVD RW DRU-710A BYX5
      4-0-0-0 F:TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS-H552B GA04

      What am I doing wrong?

Man, I still can't get the BSOY firmware installed. I dropped it on flashfix and I get an error:
            Opening File...Failed!
File size is not within specified range.

            What the hell???? Now what?

Yup Chewy the bitsetting is changed to -Rom, however it resets itself to +R after each tray eject. I haven't used the Sony bitsetting util yet, but I'll give it a shot after I get this firmware issue resolved.

Thanks for all your help Chewy.

All I can say is thank goodness for Liggy and Dee and my modded nec firmwares, where I tell nero to always bitsett +R's to -rom, and my benq and LG which bitsett the same with stock firmware.
I wouldn't waste any more time on the firmware, just yet, see if you can get the bitsetting to stick.

Chewy, back to the BSOY patch. If I use the Omnipatcher, do I load the BYX5 (stock) and then apply the BSOY (patched) which will give me a custom firmware file? Or do I just run the 1633S.BS0Y.patched-cf-mcled (patched) with out Omnipatcher . I had problem when I just tried to install the BSOY (stock) firmware file. Sorry if this didn't make since, but thats where I'm at with this.

I'm not sure of that, but if you want to retain booktype on eeprom it seems the only way.

REMEMBER: crossflashing you'll invalidate warranty, so do it at your risk.

This patch removes the booktype clear on eject and for 710A firmware saves the booktype to the EEPROM so it will restore itself after a reset or power off.
I would try this first, seems safer and your sony firmware is fairly recent

I just downloaded and patched the bxy5 firmware for bitsetting

Download the 710A firmware from my site. Load the EXE firmware into OmniPatcher and apply the fix bitsetting and auto-bitsetting patches. Save the firmware and then run the saved firmware to flash the drive.

I suspect the "Sith" is involved in all this liteon stuff.
