If the source disk is all crapped up then error correction is just trying real hard to fix it, try shrink to the hard drive with each drive and see which is better at reading the disks. I had one that was so bad it took 30 minutes in my LG, it only took a couple of minutes in the other drives to crash!

That's what I call a near coaster! or a coaster in waiting!

NForce IDE driver! get you every time

        even hose a firmware flash

I left a few hints over at cdfreaks and even Dee is saying you can flash in windows regular mode as long as you are using the DEFAULT MICROSOFT DRIVERS

And even LUK says he has no problems with his Intel, but seems to be running the default MS ones.

for the record was the old cable a 40 conductor and the new an 80 conductor?

XPsp2 is supposed to keep this kind of thing from happening!
Of course I read something about 6 consecutive errors could still crap it out.

Chewy , must have been the errors that made it crap out. Before i notice it was on pio mode, i had a few errors, nero kept locking up on me . I didnt know it reverts back to pio thanks for the info.
The cables are both 80 wire. I bought some blue round cables for the new x2, it has a clear case, i thought they would look good in it but they are to bulky so i took them back out, cant fold them out of the way like you can the flat ribbon cables. So now they are just sitting here collecting dust like me.
