Blank printable DVD's - What do you use?

Ever since I got my Epson R200 I have been wondering what media is working good?

I ve used 50 Verbatim DVD+R 8x 94812 with only one prob. but i think that was because of the DVD i backed up (a lil scratchy)

Then I bought 50 Verbatim DVD+R 16x 94917 and I've been having a 50% coaster rate, tried moving down to 4x and still had probs with a couple DVDs

So I getting curious to see if anyone else is using printable discs (not that the printable should make a difference but so far I ve tried a few others and the prints havent been as nice as the Verbatims

Until now I burned more than 20 verbatim 16x printable media without problems.

        What burner/firmware do you have?

In my experience these meda give the best results burned @12x, so I suggest you don't go never under 8x.

If your burner is rather old, this can be your problem: verbatim 16x are rather recent media, and maybe your burner can't manage them correctly.

A firmware update can solve all your problems.

I have a box of these discs and are all good. Only a disc wasted because of my error... I forgot to select an option on cd-dvd speed and burned a test disc instead of an ISO image

            What burner/firmware/speed you used?

burnt Two for the money at 4x, 8x, and 16x now all duds DVD is CLEAN

wied though with the movie at 8x / 16x speeds there was a Dense Data ring near the outside where the original doesnt and the 4x doesnt either

the 8/16x speed back ups all froze at the same time near 75% the way thru it, didnt really freeze but would lock up for 30s skip some frames then do over again

skipping that whole chapter would solve it

just DL'd the newest firmware byx5 and installed gonna try again this weekend

Why do you skipped 12x? In my experience is the best speed for these media.

                            I use the following:

Taiyo Yuden White Inkjet Hub Printable 8X DVD-R Media in Tape Wrap

Here is a link to the supplier I have used most recently, but I can also recommend Rima.com or NewEgg.com as completely reliable and reputable, assuming you are in the United States:

I have had more than 600 successful burns using these, and only 1 coaster, which was due to a power outage.

My costs are usually 43 cents to 45 cents per disc, in recent months, after shipping is figured in.

I always burn these at 4X (despite their official rated speed) to ensure a stable burn with no chance of coasters. I also burn less than 4300 MB on any disc.

Obviously, you should check and make certain that all of your DVD players are compatible with DVD-R discs if you go this route (which you should do for the DVD+R discs, as well, should you decide to purchase those instead).

                            ========

For all of my dual layer burning chores, I use these:

Verbatim (95123) 2.4X-6X Double Layer DVD+R DL White Inkjet Printable in Cake Box

Here is a link to the vendor I used the last two times I purchased, but I can also recommend Rima.com or NewEgg.com as completely reliable.

I have had 41 successful burns using these. I have yet to have any coasters using these. I did have one coaster (out of 9) using the Ritek dual layers, before someone alerted me to these discs.

I always burn these dual layer discs at 2.4 X speed, despite any manufacturer's speed claims. They are too expensive to run risks on, with my walllet.

Note that the single layer Taiyo Yuden discs above are "hub printable" which is my preference. Note that the Verbatim dual layer DVD+R printable discs are NOT "hub printable." Verbatim does not make any hub-printable dual layer discs, sadly. Still, I consider the Verbatim DVD+R media to be the only truly "safe" choice in dual layer burning, right now. So, I put up with this minor personal printing annoyance, rather than risk unsuccessful burns.

Side information: I have used the following burners with equal success on these discs: --Pioneer internal 16X; --Pioneer external USB or Firewire burners (actually two of these, one is 8X and one is 4X, both as a function of my work); NEC internal 8X burner.

                            Hope that this helps.

                            -Bruce
