    Interesting play problem

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

I have made backups of over 100 of my DVD's. When I played them on my Toshiba SD-1800 DVD player they worked just great. I was all excited when I received my new Sanyo DC-TS830WL Surround Sound Home Theatre System. The problem now is none of my DVD's will play. The display reads 'Reading' and then just sits there with 'File' on the display.

    Anybody able to help?

I used AnyDVD and DVD Shrink to make my backups. They are recorded to Memorex DVD+R if that helps at all.

It appears that your players 'Disc Compatibility' means your +R DVD's will not play.

I don't know why they even mention DVD+R,RW / CD / CD-R,RW when they don't seem to be compatible. Reference your owners manual for more clarity but again, you're probably out of luck. Sorry.

    Best Regards,

      Thanks for the reply Cambion.

I have just discovered that the DVD's my friend had made copies of play just fine. Same programs and same DVD's. There must be a setting that he has done that I don't. I guess I will need to have a comparison look at what we do different.

          Thanks for the reply Nighttran.
Actually I have had great success with the Memorex DVD that I get from Future Shop. I have nenver had a bad one yet. (Touch Wood)

Here is something that I have found after checking with my buddy and his settings for AnyDVD. When you place your mouse over the little fox in the corner beside your clock it reads, AnyDVD 5.8.3.1. On:2, Off:0, Empty:1
The On: 2 is the interesting part as my friends says On: 1 We checked all the settings in the program and all seems to be the same, except for this On: x thing. What is that and how can I adjust it if needed?

What that means is how many discs are mounted. The total of the numbers should equal the total number of drives you have. This is telling me you have 3 drives. It could be all three are physical drives, or a number of virtual drives.

On the discs your friend has made... Could it be your friend used bitsetting and you did not?

I do see that Book Type Settings just may be the culprit.
Here is the new problem. When I try to save the settings in DVD Decrypter it only list a few brands. Mine says it is just a 16x8 DVD Dual USB Device. I am not sure which brand it is. So is there another way of changing the Book Type Settings?

              Thanks again
              ================================================== ==

Further discovery... I have found that my drive is not compatable with changing the settings. So, having said that, anybody recommend a good DVD burner to buy?

Nero-CD Speed can do the bitsetting. It's found in Extras menu. I use this method myself. As for a writer that supports bitsetting, you can go to VideoHelp.com for a list of DVD Writers that support it. The link I provide here already searches based on the bitsetting criteria. I have a Plextor 716UF external running on a firewire. It's costly but worth the price. The front-runner seems to be NEC drives, though I'm not sure which model would be best. Maybe Chewy or Cynthia can recommend a model number?

                Best Regards,
