DVD-ROM's VS DVD-r's

I live in region 1. I currently burn with DVD-r's.

What are the advantages of switching to DVD-ROM format?
How do I burn in DVD-ROM format?
Are both my burners compatible?
Which media is better in the long run over time?

You are good to go, that's the same firmware and burners as 2 of mine.
2 of my best BTW!
Buy dvd+r's and under options in nero set to dvd-rom, or imgburn!

Which media is better in the long run over time?

sony/fuji 8x +R made in japan
or Verbatim 16x dvd+r
