Hello, I have some questions about the nero dvd speed tests. I first used Memorex 16X-R, then tried Verbatim 16X-R, then TY 8X-R. I tested at 4X, 8X, and 12X. I tried all three brands and they all failed at 8X.

It's pretty clear that the TY's are the best burning media, then next are the Verbs. I don't understand what the PI errors and the PI failures are. But TY is the lowest. Having said that, I ordered 300 verbatims 16X-r from microcenter, I wished I had ordered 300 TY's from supermediastore instead. Any comments how to get better results would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind the TY's are only 8X, but they kicked butt @ 12X. -
Ignore PIE's with nec 3550/4550 family of burners.
Go for lowest PIF's to determine optimal scanning speed, some do better at 5x, some 8x, some 12x.
I found 8x to be my best burning speed, but I use mostly +R media and bitsett with modded firmware. Any disk that scans way out of normal
needs to be rescanned. That rogue spike tells you nothing, except there may have been a speck of dust or a bubble in the dye.Comment

TY is TY brand XD (Taiyo Yuden). Not sure where you can get them, but Google helps.CYA Later:

Thanks Chewy, any ideas why the tests fail at 8X, as you can see in the 8X_TY I always get jitter and the quality score goes to zero. Can you tell me what the green spikes are at the bottom of the test are?Comment

the spikes at the bottom when clumped are the problems(ParityInnerFailures),
that's what leads to a POF. which is a total break down in the error correction that makes dvd's work. crc's/coasters etc.
and that is all I know, I get a headache reading any kind of long technical reports.
uteng: if you can burn cmc mags and not genuine TYG02's I would suspect
corrupt firmwareComment
