        Cynthia

What media did you use when these scans were done. I bought a 4551 yesterday and using already available disks ie RITEK G05 TYG02 and yet to try Verbatim MCC 03RG20, the TY's come out on top though I did have one Ritek that proved as good as the TY when using DVDInfoPro. I'd also appreciate your opinion as to whether I should up grade the firmware from CDFreaks site. Do I need bitsetting ?.

        Thanks

          The label states:

          Verbatim 16X -R
          Made in India

Only using -R discs - so I haven't used bitsetting on this burner. Installed modified firmware on my old Nec3520 and that one got some problems reading burned discs. So I think I will stay away from not original firmware for this burner.

Thanks for that. I think for the time being I'll also stay clear of firmware updates.

I have just burnt a TYG02 and Nero DVD Speed gave it a quality score of 97% which is the highest I have ever achieved. I have some Verbatim but Made in Taiwan ( unfortunately), I'll give them a try next. I have been using RITEK G05 with an AOpen burner which has peformed OK untill the last batch of disks , these have been a headache to say the least, so it's a change of burner, media and finger crossed.

            Regards

Actually you are not so unfortunate. Nowdays there are many made in India verbatims, that have lower quality than made in Taiwan ones

flashed my favorite burning burner(lg4163B) twice with blank media in it,
still burning occasional 99's. Had corrupt flashes from flashing with nvidia
ide drivers active. Got an nec 2100 stuck in safe mode after crossflashing it with 2500 firmware. Reflashed and powereddown. Took my first nec 3520 from stock to stock to mod1,2,3,4 and back down to 3, then 2.
                flash in safe mode
