Pioneer DVD-RW 106D Power Calibration Error

I have a Sony Vaio with a Pioneer DVD-RW 106D and I am receiving the following error message.

The Drive couldn't determine the correct power for writing this disc, To solve this you need to use a different writing speed or a different brand of media.

Power Calibration Error

Status: 000 20202
Command: 2A 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 20 00
Sense: 03 73 03

I've tried to cahnge the writing speed and changed brand of discs. and nothing works. Sony was no help what so ever.
