On-The-Fly Ripping and Burning programs

Anyone know of programs that can rip and burn all at once? What I mean is that you can put the original in one drive and the blank in another and the program takes the info off of the original straight to the blank.
I know there are programs that can do this in one command, but usually must go thru a working folder in between, but I'm wondering of programs that never go thru the hard drive at all?

DVD Shrink can do this (for newer titles it needs a "on the fly" ripper like AnyDVD or CSS Region Free).

Don't you have to encode first then burn with another burning program after? What I was asking was if there's a program that does this all at once. Buffer and write at the same time.?

You can't do it. Burning programs want to see finished decrypted transcoded files. One you learn the basics this will be obvious.

Well a couple of guys have told me that CloneCD and a Sonic program could do this on-the-fly copying so I was wondering if any here could vouch for those or let me know of a free program that can do this.

Of coarse it would be for a 1:1 copy of a movie that was already compressed or that comes in a single layer original, or a dual layer copy.

I to always thought that it needed to be processed thru the hard drive no matter what but they said it does this on the fly buffering for a few seconds then writing to disc, then buffering , then writing to disc, etc....
I haven't tried either of those ways but they said it takes all of 7minutes or so.

Well I use my computer alot and cutting down some of the time spent to make back-ups would be cool. I could work on my older system but it's not quite as fast and it doesn't have a burner installed, and I also have a laptop that is 1 Gig but still not as fast as my main system and I'd rather not burn too much on it.

What 'basics' are you meaning? Please enlighten me.

I would have to agree with Chewy, as I recall with Nero you can select the 1:1 disc copy but it still copies to a temp folder before burning. As far as the "basics" go to the DvDShrink forum and look through the FAQ's. There is a whole library of information there to get you started. As far as time savings by direct disc to disc transfer, if you are using nonencrypted files small enough to fit on a standard DvD5, using DvDDecrypter doing an ISO read, followed by an ISO write could be done in as little as 30 minutes. Would shaving 10-12 minutes off that really make a huge difference?

I don't know about 30 minutes or so for you but I already can rip with DVD Shrink and burn with Nero or Copy2DVD in way under 20 mins, And with 1Click it's usually 15mins or less to rip and burn, and that's with compressing also.
I just thought it would be cool to be able to copy a copy or something in 7 mins or so. Since my relatives and friends know that I can make DVD back-ups, they seem to bring me their DVDs and ask me to make back-ups for them so that they can preserve their originals, especially those that have kids. It sometimes feels like a chore, but I'm a nice guy and can't say no.

As far as the 'basics' Chewy was mentioning , I thought that he was referring to computer science basics that says that two drives can't function like that at the same time or something, not basic DVD copying.
I know, you just thought I was new to this whole process of copying since I am a junior member here, but I have been doing this for quite some time now,

Any programs here that can do the on-the-fly copying? I tried Sonic since it was already on PC, but my goodness!, it took longer than the normal process!!! I don't have CloneCD so never tried it, I think thats the one that is supposed to do it in 7mins. It does come with a 21 day free trial, but if there is a program that can do the same thing and I don't need to buy it, I'd like to try that first.Thanks

the problem is if your optical drives share a controller and a cable,
there's too much twoway traffic, that's why mine are standalone masters.
I once did a test of a 4400MB copy on the fly at 16x, with nero, it took
a little over 6 minutes

they do, so you think that even if I get an on-the-fly program, that they wouldn't reduce the time that much unless I make my drives standalone masters?

6 Minutes to rip AND burn!!! Now that's what I'm talking about!!!

it's not ripping since it was a burned disk I was copying, the data goes to ram from the reader and is burned. No real cpu use.

It's pretty fast just to use shrink to rip to the hard drive and then burn.

If I copy on the fly and want to be safe I do it at 4x(15 minutes), if the source is a bad burned disk, I use shrink to the hard drive.

Hi everyone,

I use the Nero copydvd function and it goes straight to my Sony DL external burner. At 4x speed it takes like 25min. It has a box you can check that avoids the temp folder and goes straight to the burner.

Ideally a 4x copy on the fly should take 15 minutes, bad source disk or
poor quality blank or a misconfigured computer and a lot of other things will slow it down.
