Problems buring DVD+R DL

I picked up a 25 pack of Ritex DVD+R DL 8.5GB disks when everyone said RiData was da bomb. I just tried to burn an unshrunk movie DVD to them.

Burner is Lite-On 1633S BS0S firmware. Player is Panasonic DVD-RP56

The first attempt was with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 I just put in the blank disc and hit the burn button. The resulting DVD does play, but there is a bunch of artifacts, and then the player freezes up solid at 26 seconds.

I asked on videohelp.com and someone said to use ImgBurn instead, so I tried that. I also set the book type to DVD-ROM instead of DVD+R I also burned at 2X instead of 2.4X The resulting disc was unreadable.

I've ordered some Verbatim media. But is there anything else I can try? Any other secret buttons or switches that might result in a viewable DVD?

Question about this... the pictures of CDSpeed include options mine (4.10) doesn't have. Whazzupwitdat? Is there another or an older version I need to use to do the Disc Info and ScanDisk?

Check for firmware update & as for the other, you need to explain exactly which part of the rules you are talking about please. Would it be NeroInfo Tool.

Okay for now let's concentrate on the process. Can you post the decrypted log & the burn log from either Dvd Decrypter or ImgBurn? What movie is this?

When I bought the Riteks, everyone was saying they were the way to go. I don't understand how the same discs that were the best then suddenly became "inferior". I have some verbatims on the way, just for giggles... but won't the same thing happen? "Oh, Verbatims used to be good, but they suck now, and you need to throw them away and get ChingChangChung media now!"

I'm grabbing the new one now. But won't someone else tell me I have to go to some other forum to get a "hacked" firmware because everyone knows the factory ones are complete, utter garbage and if you don't have a "hacked" firmware your burns will never turn out right?
