Yes, I did some 16x burnings with good-decent quality. The best results I obtained @12x, but 16x is not completely bad.

I posted two examples, both obtained with my LG 4167 firmware DL-13. Benq 1640 burners have an issue (solved in only in 1650/55 burners) that produce bad spikes of PIF errors when burning @16x on +R media.

I ususally use verbatims; sometimes tdk if dont care that much about movie.
As said NightTran not all burners do allow overspeed. Again is firmware related. Liteon burners are a little picky about overspeeding. You can manually modify firmware to force burner to do overspeed, but this invalidate warranty and not always give good results (often give bad results).

Qsuite is a tool that allow to benq burners to modify some burning factors like WOPC, overspeed, and solidburn.

I only have 1620 internal and my burners are not firewire, so 16x is out of the question, I am still testing before I plug in another benq internal for my comp, I may try to change my 1640 for the other firmware that you mention and test it out.

Right now 1655 is giving best qua. 1650 and 40 is still very new and testing only, alot more test then I will decide which one I will plug in, I may even swap my 1620 from internal to external

Too bad the only way to obtain the best is to try and see results. DVD media are so variable that different people with the same burner/firmware obtain different results almost always

I dont have alot of MCC and all of my media is yuden or taiyoyuden 002 + and -

I like to keep qua. at 98-99 if posible, that is why I keep burning at 8x and not 12x or 4x, 6 mins. from 4x to 8x is alot but 1-2 mins from 8x to 12x is seem nothing ( I can spare that )

there are other thing involve to lower the qua. too. I think

using Vob. to blank out segments also lower qua., accros movie for instance, I can't ever get them to 98 or 99, Nero is a good program to burn but sometime it does not play properly...

two 8x certified taiyo yuden burned @8x and @12x.

I don't burn @12x to save time, but for quality reasons. Usually I obtain best results burning 16x media @12x.

Chewy and Geno, have you test how fast or how slow that they degrade after time with good condition in jewel box?
