    Nero error, with log. Yet another problem.

    Hey guys, I've been reading on here for quite a while now and just registered. Here's what I have.

    Soyo kt880 platinum
    amd 3200 xp
    1 gig corsair xms
    geforce 5200
    plextor 8x dvd burner

    Burning the movie Prime on TDK 4x media. Burning at 2.4. I've made sure to read up on the media quality so I can choose a little better next time. I'm down to my last tdk anyway. I have tried to enable when possible the DMA and I've also tried to re install nero. Im currently working on burning the image using dvdd.

      this is now the dvdd error. I guess it could all be due to DMA not being on...but I have it to "on when possible" Any other insight out there? Burn got to 66%.

                  whoa.....i guess I didnt see that I had a prob with the firmware. I guess just chugging along thus far with no problems, I figured that I'd be fine. I really appreciate the help with this guys, and thanks for a warm welcome to a noob.

                  How do I change my DMA status on the drive? Device manager says its currently PIO mode, but DMA when possible. Any way to secure DMA?

                          but i dont see the mid code, is that because the drive does not reconize the media, or am i over looking it. Just learning

                              Update for all of you. After updating the firmware, the drive is now able to be in DMA mode and its not stuck in PIO mode anymore. Thanks guys. I'll be trying a burn when I get some more media. I'm just trying to decide whether to buy online or not. Any good stores online?

                                  the only online economical media equivalent to those older tdk's is TY
                                  dvd-r's. The local sales on verbatim 16x dvd+r are the way to go, unless you are lucky enough to find sony 8x dvd+r made in japan.
