I tend to agree, my 1655 Retail is better than my 1650 oem from Newegg. But does that mean that oem is not as good as retail, I am not sure, I think its like Chewy says, its the luck of the draw, I have yet to see two drives of the same model act exactly the same.

After seeing the scans that TLO and JamesCooley have posted I know the benq 1650 can burn as good as any other drive made. Right batch of media and lucky find in a drive.

              Hi guys,

So, I guess you are telling me to replace my 1640 with 1650 and I would be happy.

BTW, my 1640 I bought from Egg and it was an OEM.

              THANKS!
              G!

surprised you'd want another benq, only 4000 burns, that's horrible

some say the 1640 was the best burner ever made, some say the nec 3500

I missed out on both models

                    Hi folks,

                    @ Chewey,
Are you serious about 4000 burns being too low of number before a Burner goes out!?!? Or are you just kidding me?

                    Thanks!
                    G!

Yes I am kidding, I have never gotten 1000 burns on a burner. And way before then I don't like the scans of the burns so I retire them or put them in an older computer for some kid to burn cd's with.

                              MTBF: 125.000 POH (20%)

                              125,000 / 5 = 25,000 at 1 per hour

                              theoretically possible

                                Hi Nighttran & Chewey,

@Nighttran ... my BenQ1640 now with F/W BSRB is stil lgoing ... it just I couln't understand why the heck failed on one dvd and one cd ... both of my blanks were TY media ... may be it just happen to be bad media blanks ... because I upgraded to BSRB 2 days ago and I am still using my 1640 ... so I am not usre if I need to retire the darn thing after 3000 dvd burns and 1000+ cd burns (since I like to keep my origianls scratch free and out of my kids paws)

                                G!
