well, after trying everything you folks have suggested, i finally got Gateway to agree to send another dvd burner out for my laptop...hope that was the problem...
does anyone think it's weird that a brand new burner could be bad out of the box?
thanks for all your help...i'll let you knowComment

hi guys...
i received and installed new dvd burner...first disk i tried to burn was brokeback mountain at 4x speed...and it worked!!! plays fine and everything...no stalling, i can fast forward through to any chapter
i got excited and burned second movie...my left foot...at 8x and got the same problem as before...stalled playback at chapter 4...and then the player resets...
i got disheartened...tried to burn again at 4x and again same problem...stalled playback at chapter 5...and then the player resets...
i did nero cd-dvd speed check...disk scan...perfect burn until 10% then tons of errors...maybe if someone can tell me how to do it, i can show you a copy of the screen
losing hope of ever burning again...
what can i give you guys to maybe help?Comment
