    Burner dying?

    Hi
    I have a NEC 1100 A updated to firmware NEC 1300A (with region reset and +/- capabilities) x2.4 x4

    Recently (within the same spindel of DVD+Rs verbatim 8x) I got a few random bad burns, NOW all of a sudden it will not burn faster than 2.4. In Nero it says its burning at 4x , near the end the time remaining resets itsself and the tie adds up to 2.4 burn speed. In DVDD it says 2.5x

    I have re-flashed the firmware but nothing changed...

    can i continue to use it at 2.4x or should i not trust the burns (short of watching every burned DVD and verifing every data dvd)

    and if it is dying what is a good DVD burner to get?
    I have a dell 4600 2.6 gHz, P4 HT, 1G DDR SDRAM

          I had the same problem with a plextor..
          slow read 2x slow write out of nowhere...

          checked my hardware in device manager[secondary channels] and somehow my burner jumped from enable DMA to PIO.....

          If that happened, un-install the burner, re-boot and let windows find it again..

          you may have to re-install Nero again if it doesn't find your new burner setting.

              no its still in DMA mode
              I uninstalled burner and restarted
              computer found burner
              same results
              will only burn at 2.4X

              I burned an ISO with DVD Decrypter and ran verify and it said it was good

              BUT

              in nero with verify:
