watch out for max speed and imgburn or nero, that drive will probably go up to 12 or 16x with that media, it's not a good idea

could this be from the burn speed changing during burning ?
If i run nero CD DVD speed what am i looking for?
what settings do i want to adjust?Comment
-
Doc,
the most important thing to remember with the nec 3550(and all newer
ones) is to limit burn speed to 8X max, at 12 and 16x certain rogue spikes
or clumps appear in the PIF graphs, their true cause has been the subject of much debate. At 8x this family of burners is in the top of the class.
Do a quality scan at 8x of one of the banded disks, do a burn at 8x and scan also. What speed have you been burning at?Comment
-
I ran all of the tests, everything looked fine.
quality scan was 100%
I burn at 8X
The rings/ bands that i see are really only visible when i hold the dvd under a light.Comment

here are pics
this DVD was burned at 12X(i didn't realize nero speed chose 12x until it was too late)

As stated in the FAQ's and almost everywhere else for the last few years,
it's better to have the superior device as master. Cable select is on the way out, Dell just doesn't know it yet, I have supplied plenty of references for this already. Typical Dellhell. Your mileage may always vary, but I don't feel like troubleshooting non standard setups. I have seen cables on backwards, and
idiots driving on the wrong side of the road, doesn't mean that it's gonna work all the time.Comment

it seems pretty fast and no problem with this set up..
