i/o magic DVD burner not recognized by software + problem updating firmware

what burning programs do you have?

doozy means very hard to solve

Nero 6 but I recently uninstalled it b/c there was a suggestion I read somewhere to run Nero Clean Tool on it and reinstall.

I've also had EasyCD creator and ImgBurn installed before that.

what is your operating system and how long since the computer was loaded with it?

Windows XP and I did a clean reinstall around 4 months ago.

let's have that info tool report attached please, maybe it will show something,
but the best way to troubleshoot this problem would be to try that external drive on another computer?

Thanks so much for persevering - I really appreciate it! I'm attaching the infotool report - I presume you mean the report for the internal drive (the dvd-rom) only, since when I ran it with the dvd burner attached it just hung up without reporting anything!

My husband is going to try and hook it up to his pc at work sometime this weekend, so I can let you know if that works.

let's wait for the check on another computer, I saw a few things left over from other burning programs and if they can make a internal drive disappear,
I guess they can make a usb one screw up.
