    Recipe for disaster

    Good burner(my old LG 4163B) meets premium media(sony mij 8x dvd+r)
and too fast a burn speed 12X.

the burner is showing it's age, this batch of sony isn't that good
    the graph shows all

since that last burn went straight to the trash, here's a retry with newer nec 3550 and an 8X burn speed and next disk from spindle

    Better?

Doesn't that rule out the batch of media not being that good?

What about the LG @4X or 8X with same media?

if the sony blanks were more consistent then I would agree, however before I give up on the LG for burning I will try an 8X burn with TYG02(very consistent). Either way the LG is a durn good reader for old disks or 8X Copy on the fly. Lens is probably getting dirty.

I just finished my first 50pk of Sony 16x MIJ TY003 disc, and all 49 of them turned out fine {to me at least, (remember Chewy I used one for the create disc function)}.

I did not test all of them, but they all play fine on my stand alone player, the one that's about 12 yrs old. The ones I did check score 95-96 on the test.

If they play for me I'm happy though.

No quality score on that first burn? It was so bad CDSpeed couldn't give a score?

quality score 0, actually with 72 POfailures and 94K PIF's the quality score should have been MINUS 1000%, but I am sure it would play in a good player.
And that would be good enough for some, not me.

                          Yes, I said that.

I will try and scan a couple of the 16x disc later tonight and post the results for you nightTran.

some people verify every disk, I just spot scan till I see a problem then
investigate further, playabilty doesn't tell me enough

That's what I usually do, I might scan 1 out of every 10-15 discs. Most of the scans I have run are decently consistent with each other.

Usually when I'm making back-up's I do 4 or more at a time so I'm not really ready to do a scan too.
