Disk Quality Scan Thread

Before I switched firmware for my lite-on burner my scans of disks were getting better and better in the pif department, as low as 36. Now they seem to be on the rise, sometimes in the 500 range and never below 100. Was wondering if anyone knew of any tweaks for if anyone has tried out the psoc firmware. psob allowed me to enable online hypertuning, but nothing seems to be tuning in as of yet.
Ive been burning from the same media spindle, tyo2's.....and have tried multiple burning speeds and such, but no luck getting more consistant burns, any advice?

go back to the old one and after few burn and see if your quality go back to where it was? pif can go up and down even in the same spindle as long as it does not go from good to very high PIF ( more then 1k)

Thanks Night, that was my next question, I'll give it a try, it's not like I'm getting really high pie's or pif's with either firmware, but PS09 was significantly less in most cases.

they will go up and down even in the same spindle, dont worry too much if you got over 90%

This is only count with TY and not with any other medias

Ok, so far with this burner I've only had 1 burn less than 95, good burner and good media....all smiles!

variation of 100/200 up to 500/600 within the same spindle is common

those pie averages below 2 are excellent

I think I had a 1.25 once

The pie's have gone down with the PSOB firmware, consistantly in the 1.4-1.8 range, but the pif's went up a bunch. Just tweaking a lil....been getting good burns for sure though.

space between the burn ( 10-15 mins), it may go higher toward the bottom ?

Definately longer than 10-15 min. between burns, by the time shrink's deep analysis is done and then the encoding, its more like 25-30 min. I'll keep an eye on the bottom of the spindle.

8x dvd+r, TY02, MIJ, @4x with SHW-160P6S PS09

some recent burns including my first 98 QS

Ok this is the 1st time posting scans.

The 1st scan is of a disk burnt with my old NEC ND-1300a Max 4X.

The second scan was done with 7170A @ 6X.

I know both Disk, are low on the Q list, but are these scans any good?

I just thought I would post and see.

first off scan at 8x not max, but as far as I could see, the old ricoh disks are real good media and even the cmc stuff looks fine, wait till you do a scan of premium blanks

going right to the edge with cmc is iffy, expect to get burnt when a bad blank shows up

This is where one learns real quick, that Imation disk, just are not the same.
I have about 50 of the old Imation ricoh disks, and about 100 of the Imation CMC's. Using CMC's on movies that I do not watch often, using the ricoh on the heavy use DVD's.

Do plan on getting good media when I run low.

What size (MB) would you recommend for the CMC disk?
