    Fooling around.

I was at a friend's place today & decided to fool around a little bit. First up is a couple of scans of a copy of a copy. The LG GSA-H10N did the copying in Nero & Nero burnt it to the TSST SH-S182D @8X, (none mine). Used TDK TTH02 16X media & scanned with the TSST SH-162L.

This one was using ImgBurn in Vista for the first time. Funny thing is while this is 16X media & will show up that way with ImgBurn in XP, in Vista the maximum write speed to show up for the TDK TTH02 media was 8X. I burnt this one using a 2004 LiteON SOHW-812S (USOS) which shows up as a Sony DW-U18A (USOS) @4X. Scanned with the TSST SH-162L. BTW this was a copy of a copy as well.

All burns with LH-20A1S & ImgBurn, using Sony 16X Dvd-R, TYG03, Made in Japan, no SmartBurn. All scans with SH-162L @8X.

So soup you tried going back to stock after all. What is the over all verdict? Flash with 9L08 and no Smartburn? By the way what are the steps to reverting back to stock? This may come in handy in the future. Thanks

@ ipaulo, my honest feeling right now is that if you are still getting good burns with what you are using right now, stick with it because the jury is still out on these firmware updates. When I flashed back I was at 9L07 FB because of that I could not flash back to 9L05 stock, I had to flash back to 9L05 FB & then flash to 9L05 stock. Don't ask me why because I have no clue.

@ NightTran, I remember you talking about it but to be honest with you I don't really know if it is better with it on or off because there is no defined test & I think the inconsistancy of the burns doesn't help but you have done a lot more burns than I have to be able to tell. BTW I didn't just disable, it's gone.

Third burn after flashing, this stuff will drive you crazy. My stupid quest for the perfect burn, who got me started on this Holy Grail quest?

Boy am I glad I never went the Lite-On way, I would have smashed it to pieces long ago, lol. Mostly because I wouldn't be able to stop tweaking it either!

I did try for the perfect burn and never got it, the problems you have it is not the burner nor the firmware but the whole stack of consistence media which I had a few so I could burn and test them easier. Even though my test show that 8x with every thing on but Wopc aka smartbrun off is the most consistense but I start burning 4x because you can feel the burner is not hot at all no raising up and down the speed when burn ( I figure they would last longer, just like race car go fast but die quick )

                      that are my .02 cents

That .02 cents seems pretty good value for the money to me.
