          copy,
          in order to interpret scans
you would need to read this thread, dman has joined about 4-5 other members in posting a rarer trophy burn(my opinion)

however don't be mislead by the low pif values, they are much lower with liteon scans. those scans are never higher than 98 quality score, a pif of 2
with his scan is equivalent to a pif of 8 with a nec or benq.

this burn is a gold medal one, I have had a couple half as good as that, mr cooley has had several this last week. his burns are 3-4 times better than any posted here yet

          dman's is still very good

Yeah, what I was looking at was the PIF that only hit 2 once. But I did not take into consideration the ECC. I have a tendency to overlook the ECC since mine is 1.

While we are on this topic I am thinking of getting the pioneer burner, I would like your opinion on it vs. the NEC. I want one that I can eventually flash to booktype. I saw a reference once somewhere to a FW that would allow the Pioneer to do this, have you seen or know where one is? I am wanting to buy another burner and all of them are $35-$40 so price is not even a consideration. Te BenQ, NEC, Pioneer all are within $4 of each other. Also thought maybe about the LG that supports 12x DVD RAM but know nothing about its burn quality. Anyway any info, answers or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

if I had to get one burner, it would be a benq 1650/5, my second would be a nec 3550, my third would be either the pioneer or LG.
              1. I have to have a good scanner(also a good burner)/liteons are not considered all round good burners(close)

              2. a main burner that can scan in a pinch and likes a lot of different media(nec 3550)

              3. just a good burner(lg and pioneer)

if you have a good liteon get the pioneer

Well, what I had in mind was just replacing my ROM drive. But I may just buy two and replace both. My TSST does a fine job (not the best but good) and would really like to use it to its max, so I was considering changing the ROM.

Let me see if I decipher your reply right, you consider BenQ to be the best scanner and good burner, Nec to be the best burner and mediocre scanner. Pioneer and LG as very good burners. Do the Pioneer and LG not support scanning?

OK give me a double buy, BenQ and Pioneer, BenQ and NEC? What do think, and remember I want to make sure that I can use it to change the booktype? I probably will just change both as this seems to solve all issues the easiest.

You didn't say if you have read or seen the FW for the Pioneer to do this.

DB's have firmware for pioneers that bitsett but check first.

I'd match a pioneer or nec with a benq. Close call, pioneer may burn better,
                  nec will rip faster.
That's why I have 4 main burners, I couldn't make up my mind, and I want to try out the new pioneer too.

Thanks for the thoughts. I considered using three, but I just went to my desktop and realized that my third slot has my card reader in it. I may be able to move it to a lower space, but I am not sure, I will have to check it out when I buy the drives. If not I will just use two.

I will most likely give it a few more weeks of thought, I am leaning toward the Pioneer and the BenQ. Can you direct me toward the place I can search for the FW, I do not know where to find DB's? It sounds familiar and is probably where I saw it, but do not know. Thanks.

Thanks, and that is where I saw the FW, and yes the DB's do have it for the 111.

I have a really crazy question, or just a dumb thought, probably both. The only thing I have seen even close to my TS is the drive in the thread you have been helping with. Where you posted that the +R had been changed to ROM. Anyway I noticed his is a H652L FW0603 (I believe), well I have a H552L FW0614. Sorry, never mind it's probably too far fetched. I was thinking about seeing if I could flash mine with the FW for the 652, as I am curious as to why his FW will allow bitsetting but mine won't. Actually I've never tried a +R in this burner, and have never seen anything about it having the capability to change it. But I am going right now to my other desktop and get a +R and see if it will.

I did see the 111 at newegg for like $36.00 delivered within 3 days. If the LG is quirky you'll probably have one before me.
