    Aopen DUW1608/ARR firmware update

    Hello
The last few months I`ve tried three or four times to update the firmware of this drive (Aopen DUW 1608/ARR) in my sister`s pc but all the links I find don`t respond. It seems I have A070 and there are A080 and A110. (from the dvddecrypter link). I also tried in aopen`s download place 1.8 and 1.11 (hope it`s the same thing) but they also don`t respond.

There is a problem with the drive. It has been used rarely and the discs that burns (verbatim) play badly. That`s why I feel I should update firmware.

    Could someone help please?

I would do it from safe mode, no disk in drive, see sticky at top of computing forum

Thanks for your quick reply Chewy.
This is the page I`m trying to download from, too. But it opens an empty page and after a while it says that "the operation timed out when attempting to contact ftp.aopen.com.tw
If it works for you, perhaps something is wrong with the internet settings of this computer. I tried both internet explorer and mozilla firefox.
Anyway, perhaps I should try fron another computer.
      Thank you

          Hello again
I don`t know why the burned dvds still have a problem. I updated the firmware of Aopen 1608. The discs are Verbatim. I tried in 4x speed. DMA is ok. The drive although is one and a half year old , my sister hasn`t used it for burning dvds and it`s practicaly new. I tried both Imageburn and nero. The programs say that burn was succesful and they verify data too. But the dvds don`t play ok. Little problems on playback on computer and major on the dvd players. Freezes, pixelation, unwatchable. Anyway I agreed with the man that bought the pc to exchange the burner. Perhaps next weekend I`ll try again with a new burner. If that still fails I`ll sure need your help.

Other thing I noticed is that Imageburn at the end finalises disc. I always used nero with no problems and when I burn an image at the burn tab there is a finalise dvd option and I never put tick in it but the dvds play fine . At the end nero says "writing leat out" and "idle" only . I searched the forum but I didn`t find an answer what is the right thing to do with this option although leaving it unchecked never gave me problems. But from scientific curiosity what do you think?

No. I have only ruined three verbatim dvds. If it the burner doesn`t like verbatims it`s a good reason to change it. I`ll try to get a new burner and see what happens. What do you do regarding the option of finalise in nero?
              Thank you very much

you only finalize data dvd's, video dvd's are automatically finalized?

that newest firmware is very recent

verbatims should be fine, I suspect "user error"

When you burn dvd video from dvd files on hard disc, the option of finalise in burn tab is not available . Seems it`s automaticaly finalised.
But when you burn an image how does nero know it`s movie ? And the option of finalise dvd in burn tab is available. So you think we should tick it? Although leaving it unticked never gave me problems?
And that option of writing extended leat out on dual layer dvds I don`t know what`s right to have it on or off.
When you say user error you mean I`m doing something wrong with the programs?

I am burning one as a test, left everything at default, leaving it unticked leaves the session open in rom, burned another with express, this time there is no option to leave open or closed. Evidently it closes automatically, confirmed with nero and cdspeed.

my tosh standalone plays the open session disk fine

nero likes me for some reason, I try to get it to screw up
