don't call a real benq a cheapo, my theory is they overproduced the drives and have a newer model coming out that won't scan, if they can dump enough of the 165X line then prices will go way up like they did on the
1640 before the 1650 came to the states.

        soup,

I will not link that drive myself(1670) as it does not support quality scans in cdspeed, and the advertised qsuite support is an out and out lie, time will tell.

It does seem to burn OK

that why night bought 2 more benq 165X's to set back for the future.
Looks like the new liteons will be the scanners for the future, they do burn verbatim 16x dvd+r very well.

Sorry, Chewy - I didn't really understand your reply. Are you saying they're good or bad? And if soup's reply was directed at me, I don't get "northern/southern", either.

Is a particular model of Benq significantly better than a PX-716A or PX-740A??? I have no interest in LightScribe.

plex 740 is a benq, the plex 716 is a good burner, way overpriced, very slow scanner, bang for the buck, it's hard to beat these benq's

OK Thanks - that's a lot clearer. So if you were gonna buy the "best" burner with no preference for LS under $100, what would you pick? This $30 Benq?

the best burner for under 100$? depends upon what you alrady have

all in one burner, probably the benq 1655, or 1650

@ Steve83 my post was not directed at you specifically. If you check out my previous posts in this thread, north = Canada, south = USA. Have a good one.

Pioneer DVD-ROM 116 & PX-716A in the system that keeps crashing (check the "...image the OS HD..." thread in Gen.Comp.). I'm having intermittent problems with the 716, but it might be just a side-effect of whatever's causing it to crash.

I haven't learned enough yet to understand why you'd need a different burner in Kanadia, but it's no big deal right now. Thanks for the clarification.

                              Hey Guys,

Do you think BenQ will soon (in a year or so) come up with an even better dvd burner than 1650/1655???

If not in real near future ... I wonder if I should grab another 1650 from newegg and store away for rainy days!?!?

                              FYI, I currently have a 1655 and 1640!

                              Thanks!
                              G!
