I use nothing but +R booktyped\bitset to DVD-R0M now and lend out some of my backups for other people to watch and give back. Not one of them has said they would not play. When I was using -R some said they would not play in their players. I'm not sure what brand of players they have.

Same here...in fact I switched to +R so I could booktype them to see if they had a higher degree of compatability because not all of the -R's could be viewed by my friends.

I have 2 Apex players and a LiteOn standalone recorder (which is also set to booktype\bitset to DVD-ROM now) in my house that play either + or - media also. I myself never had a problem with -R it was friends and family that did, that is why I switched to the DVD-ROM setting.

i think originally when players were developed their specification was r.o.m.then came the dvd-format then dvd+and so on .it also depends on the player quality as well.......

I threw about 50 of the sob's away after i found out how bad they were,
redoing that many backups really burned me up with Memorex

The funny thing is that Memorex work fine for some people...the real question is for how long?

I have yet to try a -R disc. Out of about 400 backups never had a +R that wouldn't play. Tried them on various players.
Did have issues with Memorex discs though. Seem to wear out quickly if you view them alot. I use only Sony D21 now and get great results. Anyone else notice the weight difference in discs. Sony feels heavier than Memorex to me. Real or imagined???

maybe the sonys are heavier quality? i have some memorex about 2 years old now and many viewed dozens and dozens of times still don't miss a beat. i am blessed.

I am going to buy a few -R next time I purchase blanks just to experiment with. At times I have seen them priced lower than my +R .
I'm blessed with 3 sticky fingered rug rats. That could be part of my problem with Memorex disc life..LOL

I guess I bought into the "-R is more compatable" theory from so long ago.... that's all I've ever bought.

Way back when it probably was true...but now you know the possibilities of the +R format.

I favor the cheapest made in japan blanks.
It's nice to be able to bitsett but for long term storage it's not relavent.
