Jmet did ask me what my source disk was for the COF at 16x, very intelligent question, an almost perfect 99 burn.

Goes to prove that with a good burner\media\fw combo, anything is possible. And doing it on seperate IDE channels helps also. I usually COF at 8X with my ROM and burner on the same channel but have done a few 12X when I forgot to lower the speedNot registered Go here and click register to join the Digital Digest Forums

A 12X COF with source and destination on the same channel would be slow and iffy. Probably the same speed(time) as an 8X. With a bad source disk,
I always go to the hard drive, with a soso disk I cof at 4x, good disk 8X.
Wait till you get a serial hard drive computer, having everything standalone master really is the way to go. Surprised you aren't already using a controller card, I bought several refurbs from the egg for
20-30$ long ago.Comment

I have 2 Maxtor SATA/ATA 150 PCI cards that take 2 SATA and 2 PATA drives. One I got at Staples for $25 on sale and after ebate and a printer cartridge. The other I got on ebay from a guy for $20 that bought a Maxtor SATA drive that came with the card but he didn't need it. One is in my AMD box where I have 4 PATA drives (2 on Primary, 2 on Maxtor card) and 2 DVD Drives on the secondary. The other is in my PIII box. I ran outta power plugs in the AMD box and I am already using 2 power splitters. I gotta get a better power supply if I wanna add more . I also need a couple longer 80 wire IDE cables to move stuff around in this boxNot registered Go here and click register to join the Digital Digest Forums

Fox is in the henhouse....oopsey and my H: drive is just an extra internal that I use to rip and burn from. After rereading the thread though, I didn't have overspeed turned on...this is probably the difference, my fault. Anywho, I've got a nice shiney spindle of Verbs sitting here with nothing to burn and the whole morning off...what would the next test be chewy? Reburn this same one with overspeed turned on, AnyDVD turned off or do you have something else in mind.

since that mid is a 16x media, overspeed should be irrelevant, just do a nero burn at 16x of the same iso and note time
wopc/solidburn? may be slowing the burn down to get a better burn as the drive learns the media
if that is the case the burn times will decrease in later burns
use cdspeed to burn the iso!Comment

I started Nero before I read your last post so solidburn/wopc is still on...AnyDVD disabled. I accidentally ticked determine maximum speed so the time will be 1:21 longer than it took to burn. The results were basically identical, so I won't bother posting it....I'm going to turn off WOPC/solidburn and retry Imgburn.
Edit: No dice....cant get full speed.

Loco,
I got some clues, these durn benq drives are slowing down the burns to make sure we get a good burn, no matter what speed we tell it to burn.
I turned on overspeed with Imgburn, set burn speed to 16x and started an iso burn. About halfway thru it kept dropping to 8 or 9x and climbing to 13x then dropping again, it went thru 4-5 cycles like this, then at the very end
did a couple short runs up to 16X.

Was that with Solidburn and WOPC enabled chewy as we discussed earlier...I read on CDFreaks where WOPC may be causing the drive to slow down. Any truth? In the tests that I made ^above^ I had disabled both features and saw little increase in the speed...I might try the NEC next, never thought about it.
