DVD burning issues

I have a Sony 16x DVD burner. It was working fine until a few days ago. I am still able to burn CD's with no problem. The issue is burning DVD's. Everytime I try to burn any type of DVD I get a write error. Here is a list some of the trouble shooting steps I have already tried.

1. Tried different media to see if it was a media problem.
2. Updated the Nero software to the latest version.
3. Burned at a lower writing speeds.

I also tried different software settings with no success.

Out of 10 DVD's I tried to burn only 2 came out good.
One thing I did notice when I looked the the bad DVD's that where burned is that were the burner wrote data, it had blank area. It looked like it would start to write then stop and then start again leaving blank gaps between the written areas.

What media are you using? Check your DMA.

Post a log please.

I have tried Memorex and Verbatim.
I will post a log in an hour or so when I get back to the PC with the burner

Destroy the memorex and keep the verbs.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I still find it strange that I can burn CD's with no problem but DVD's is a whole different story...

I doubt your firmware is good enough to write at 16x. Something wrong with 8x or 4x?

See if you can find a firmware update. JYS3 is out.

is that windowx xp64 or server 2003?

looks like you only got about 2 minutes into the burn, probably up to 12x speed,

that's an oem liteon drive and sony dropped firmware support with only 1 more
upgrade from yours

I would change it over to a liteon, as that's what it really is

It is server 2003 and I have tried and 8x and 6x Nero doesn't give me an option to do 4x. But even when I do 8x or 6x I get the same results...
Not sure where I can find a firmware upgrade since this is an OEM drive..

since it's a liteon drive, 4x will never be an option with high speed media and that family of drives

to crossflash try this firmware, extract with winrar and boot into safe mode
for the flash

try a burn at 8x or 12x

One more thing I should mention. When I do a simulation, everything works great. Which at first lead me to believe it might be bad media, thats when I switched from Memorex to Verbatim. I also attached InfoTool.txt file
