Any benefit to having 2 DVD drives on separate channels?

I recently went to SATA for my two hard drives. Now I have my Primary IDE empty on the motherboard. I currently have the 2 DVD drives (one drive, one burner) on the Secondary IDE channel as master and slave.

Is there any benefit to hooking them both up as master and putting one of them on the Primary IDE?

you can burn two movies at one time from each HD ( one HD to one burner)

I don't have 2 burners. But even if I did, what would prevent that from being done with both on one channel? I guess you're talking using two separate burning programs at the same time?

8X copy on the fly works with good source disk

why couldn't I do that now?

my single core cpu has handled burning 2 disks at once, your dual core could probably do 2 heavy duty transcodes at the same time or even easier fast straight rips from both optical drives, try ripping from one drive and burning to the other(using seperate hard drives) and test.

we used to do a lot of copy-on-the-fly with backing up a large karaoke collection, never worked worth a damn with drives on the same cables

Couple of questions.

My drives are currently (on Secondary IDE):

DVD burner - Master - Drive F
DVD player - Slave - Drive G

Hooking the burner as Master on Primary IDE and DVD player as Master on Secondary IDE gives me same drive letters?

Next question. How do you burn or decrypt two movies at the same time with just one program? Say RipIt4Me for example? Dunno that I would ever do it but it would be interesting to test it.

start one then start another, never tested ripit, but have used 2 instances of nero and imgburn or combination, with dual core I could transcode 2.

you really would not want to be using the same hard drive for 2 operations at the same time

Did it. Drive letters came out the same. I did a disk to disk copy with Nero and used the check for maximum speed run. Before, Nero reported the max at 4x. Now it reports it at 6x.

mine comes close to maxing out at 16x

Just did another one at 8x and it was successful. I guess Nero's estimate is on the conservative side.
