For starters, reset (turn on) your DMA. Go here to learn how - http://www.digital-digest.com/articl...dma_page1.html

        Thanks for the speedy response!

Changed the DMA settings earlier but still didn't work. By clicking properties on NVIDIA nforce2 ATA Controller the primary channel for the 107D is set to Multi-word DMA 2, the secondary drive 109, which works, is set to Ultra DMA 2 - Ultra 33.

Earlier I set both drives to Ultra DMA 2 - Ultra 33 with no luck. The options I receive in device manager are somewhat different to those in the walk through.

XP was a clean install, the mobo is an Abit NF7-S

        Thanks for your help

don't worry about dma, the fact that nero and windows is confused about your dma is the problem and that's due to those damn nvidia drivers

to get my asus nf2 deluxe mobo running right I had to install xp sp2 and special updated drivers for my sil 3112 chipset then after that only installing
drivers that sp2 didn't have. Never use the nf drivers for the ide's.
Most mobo cd's are junk and the mobo's web site not much better.
It took me 3 installs to get all the bugs out of mine.

so any IDE drivers will do? Can I just delete the nf drivers, then install the sp2 drivers.

            Sorry, bit confused!

go into device manager and to the controller that your dvd burner is on and properties/driver and see if you can roll back the driver to the ms original

check first in add remove programs for a driver package?

                thanks for the info..

I now have the microsoft ide drivers installed, however nero runs very slow once a cd/dvd is inserted in the drive and eventually crashes.

Not sure what to do now

                  that's why I loaded windows 3 times

once you hose xp by loading an older driver you may never get it fixed
