I just wanted to follow up with the solution.

Today I went and purchased some Memorex 16x DVD-Rs.

Problem solved... I can’t believe that was it.

Now, we’ll see if Office Depot will take back an opened spindle of blanks. Probably not, but it’s worth a shot.
