Any benefit to SATA burner?

I hear DVD drives will be migrating to SATA sometime soon. Is there going to be a benefit to the user compared to an IDE drive (other than a smaller cable)?

I mean if we're limited to 16x now, doesn't seem SATA is going to be any faster.

You may not have the same issues with DMA and data flow.
