Slow Burning speeds with Nero 7

Hi L.T Columbo thanks for you help too... this is the most recent log that nero gives me seems strange why it seems to be old log but its the one at the very bottom of the log.. i know it shows as one of the DMA being OFF on the writer but have double check and they are on.

Do yo think its worth doing a re install of nero 7 and possibly trying a different application?

Hi Chewy think i have cracked it mate

spent hrs trying different things including a different app... I ended transfering the same files that are on my external usb drive to my C/: drive, this alone took 1hr30 mins to transfer to my drive (3.8g) when i burnt the same files that took me an 1hr40 mins in nero it did it in 6mins reading/writing from my c/: drive.

The prob now is it used to work the same speed from my external drive i think i may have a issue with the usb port or something not right twith the external drive.

4 gigs is 4000MB

usb1 does .9 MB/s, 4000 / .9 = 4444 seconds

4444 / 3600 sec/hr = ~1hr 15 min

something is definitely wrong, try another port/cable

wonder if the usb2 drivers got hosed

under device manager in usb devices it will show some driver properties etc dates. You should be using standard ms drivers not anything else.
Look for the enhanced component.

There's often a bios setting that controls high speed?

From what I am seeing I don't have much faith in the company that built your computer?

I will check out my ports etc had a quick look at my bios when i was checking the dvd drives but if i remember the usb side is not set to the 2.0 version... will double check but am a little causious in messing around with the bios but my first port of call is to check the drivers are all ok in device manager.

i agree dont think i will go back to pcspecialists.com still find this pc slow ie start up etc but i am aware i do have a lot of crap running on my usb and on the pc in the back round like Pda/camera/i-pod/external drive/bluetooth/printer/scanner etc but i was expecting the pc to cope better with it.

try to put the external all by itself on one of the 3 sets of usb ports, another factor to consider is what components(usb) pull power from the motherboard.
Moving them(if there are too many) to a powered hub might work.

Hi Chewy,

My external hard drive is connected straight to the back of the pc usb port and i run other stuff of a external usb hub which is mains powered.....

I went into my bios and enabled couple things on the usb side and it has seemed to do the trick i just burnt the same files off my external drive and hooray! did it in 6mins So all looks good.

you might want to lower that burn speed to 8x now that high speed usb is working, you can scan with cdspeed and check the 8x burns vs the 12x ones
