I Can't Burn On DVD Recordables Anymore

I bought a brand-new Plus and Minus DVD burner and I can only burn on DVD+RW discs and DVD-RW discs now. I used to be able to burn on DVD recorable discs. When I want to use DVD recordable discs, things go wrong. With the DVD recordable discs, sometimes nothing burns at all, most of the time it burns to about 30% and the DVD recordable discs stop spinning in the burner and the remain counter still goes down and the percentage bar still goes up. When this happens I have to reboot because I can’t shut down the burning software. I was using Roxio when this started and then I got rid of it and installed Nero and the same happens with Nero. As soon as I use re-writable discs again things work perfectly. By the way, it's not only DVD+R discs that fail to work now, it's DVD-R discs, too. As I mentioned at first, I have a Plus and Minus DVD Burner that's brand-new. I brought it the other day.

I’m burning the way I always have done. I don’t know what is going on. I also use good quality discs, none of the cheap ones from cheap web sites or from the pound shops.

    Many thanks.

    Darren.

      Thanks for the super-fast reply.

I bought a Freecom Classic DVD+/-RW Double Layer DVD burner. IT's known to have 9 in one as follows.

      Drive Speed

      DVD+R9 Double Layer 4x
      DVD+R 16x
      DVD+RW 4x
      DVD-R 16x
      DVD-RW 4x
      CD-R 48x
      CD-RW 24x
      CD-ROM 48x
      DVD-ROM 16x

My old DVD burner is the same and it never went strange like this. I had to buy another because when I was burning my home movies, the DVDs wouldn't play in my Pioneer DVD player and I found out my old DVD burner caused that. Now I bought a new one I have this new problem.

Firmware is something that worries me because I was told ages ago over a completely different issue to make sure I install the correct one otherwise I could mess-up all my drivers. One time I went to the Freecom web site and I think I found the correct one and when I tried to unzip it the Zip file was jammed with an error. I've never thought Firmware is needed for a brand-new burner of any kind.

I can't send a log file because I never got one. I can get one from Nero but it's so big to read and I don't know if anyone has the time for that. There's no point in me reading it because it will be double-dutch to me because I'm not an expert.

I'm wondering if my new DVD burner is faulty but I wanted to post here to ask for some infomation just encase I'm wrong. In full, I've had to buy three DVD burners that are Plus and Minus but I never had this problem before.

Many thanks for your help and for the quick reply.

      Darren.

Reference your Nero log. Nero just keeps adding the logs on, it does not overwrite. So what you want to do is find the bottom one which should be your last one & post.

Sorry. I've been using Samsung DVD-R, Pleomax DVD+R, Mr DVD DVD+R and Sony DVD-R discs. I was able to burn on these DVD discs OK at first.

            Many thanks.

            Darren.

                Soup and Gary.

I'll have to post the log tomorrow because I've run out of DVD discs due to my last ones being wasted. Then, when the fault happens again I can get to the log.

By the way, Soup, sorry I didn't thank you before, I didn't notice your reply, then.

                Many thanks to you both.

                Darren.

                    darren,

It's essential that you post the last failed burn log, otherwise no one can really help you.

Based on the log that burning went ok.

There is a later firmware. You have now Version: FR01 installed.

I hope you don't mind me asking this after going to that site. I've heard and read about this before that follows.

These pages are only for advanced users. Bad flashing could destroy your drive definitively. Read carefully the installation notes of your firmware before you upgrade. The Firmware Page and the drive manufacturer can't be responsable on REMEMBER: This is at your own risk!!!!
DVD Region+CSS Free enables you to watch & copy region-coded/CSS-encrypted/ARccOS-protected DVDs on any (including RPC-2) DVD drives without flashing firmware.

How do you know this is the correct Firmware? Is there anything is the Nero log file that you read that told you this is the correct Firmware for me? That warning from the site that I Copied & Pasted in bold worries me encase you posted the wrong link by accident or by a misunderstanding. I'm worried encase something happens to my drives that causes further problems. I hope you don't mind me asking, I'm sure you understand.

By the way, I'm in the UK and I'm wondering if my Region settings might also change.

                            Many thanks, again.

                            Darren.

Your manufactorys homepage also tells that the latest firmware version for your external burner is FR02.

Your region setting will not change with original firmware.
