Arghhhh! d/l'd new firmware, and followed the instructions for turning DMA on. Except I noticed that I have two Primary IDE Channels. So I clicked the second Primary IDE Channel and noticed that on Device 1, it says PIO Mode for the Current Transfer Mode. I unstalled driver, but same thing comes up. I'm posting the burn error log I just got now. HELP!!

              4. DMA Settings

              Setting DMA mode:
              <TABLE width="90%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD class=news_topic>Windows 95/98/ME Users
Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu. Click on [Device Manager], then click on [CD-ROM]. This will expand to show the CD drives on your system. Right click on a drive and select [Properties] from the menu. Click on the [Settings] tab and check that the [DMA] option is enabled. Repeat this procedure for the remaining CD drives.
              Win NT/2000/XP Users
Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu. Click [Device Manager] on the [Hardware] tab, then click to open the [IDE ATA/ATAPI (hard disk) controllers] section. You will find: the Primary IDE Channel controller, Secondary IDE Channel controller. Complete the following procedure:
              1. Right click on the Primary IDE controller and select [Properties] from the menu.
              2. Select the [Advanced Settings] tab. Check that the [Transfer Mode] for both devices is set to [DMA if available].
              3. Repeat this for Secondary IDE controller.
              </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Note: In some cases older CD-ROM drives will not support DMA mode. In that case please set both devices to PIO mode.

Yes I rebooted. Just tried it again and it's still not working. Once it goes into burn mode after encoding I get the burn error message. Before it would burn the entire disk then give me the burn error. I'm using TDK media.

It might help to see how you have your drives set up. Can you run nero info tool and post the results?

                          either or
                          1. that media is garbage
                          2. the burner is dead

in this case I wouldn't be surprised if both were true?

if the media is branded tdk and another drive detects a mid code I would say the burner is toast

I m curious why this won.t keep you dma on.
                              Description : Slave: HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B
                              Type : CD-Rom Drive
                              DMA : Off
I noticed the note on the instrution from the error code page read :

"Note: In some cases older CD-ROM drives will not support DMA mode. In that case please set both devices to PIO mode."
I know were talking about dvd burners, and dvd roms but i wonder if one being set to pio and the other one with dma on has anything to do with it,
But i would follow Chewys instructions.Sorry i cant be of more help.
