it's gotten good reviews but wait for a free shipping deal if you can

lightscribe is not reviewed well tho so I would skip it, do you need cable and burn software?

I got cables and the software. I just want a cheap burner because I've gone through 2 burners within a year. The Samsung one seems to be getting better reviews than the NEC7170. I would like my burner to last as long as a year. The longer the better =)

i have the samsung.. its a great burner.. but i wouldnt even think about using it to read anything useful. lol firmware problems cause it to not even read its own dvd's sometimes. but it will burn and scan in another player fine. theres also a lead in problem where it writes the data probably like 5mm away from the center or something. firmware ending in 01 was supposedly the best or used the special "hacked" firmware for -R media. but ive had no problems at all with +R, and the -r's dont have a problem being read in my settop player or other drive.

              OK, please don't hurt yourself
I am thinking it is time to look at getting a new DVD burner.
I have been using a Samsung SM-352B for reading and a NEC ND-1300a for burning. (a long time friend) I have burnt a few 100 DVD with this drive, but want to get updated before I have any problems. I am looking at the NEC 7170, but I am seeing mixed reviews. I have read here that it seemed to be a fairly good drive. But is this the best/reliable burner or is there something else that that you all would recommend?

              Thanks for any input.

I would really hate to increase my coaster rate, I think total is like 5.

What problem(s) are you having? Make sure you firmware is current and you are using quality media such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

I have used a Samsung SH-162L for a few months now & (touch wood) no problems so far. In fact it was ripping, burning & doing CDDVD speed tests for a while. Now that I have an LG GSA-H10N, it will rip & the Samsung will burn & do the CDDVD Speed tests.

What is the name of the movie? Are you using the most current version of your software rippers? Is your drive seen in "My Computer" now?

Movies are Click, RV, ans MIP-III, and yes on my comp it is showing the drive. I'm not sure if I am using the latest version of rippers

I think it might be a good idea to check.
