wonder if the drive was ever hooked up to the funky controller card
and if overspeed was turned back off would the drive now show the 8X burn speed like it should have before?
Do we think that there is a problem with the drive, or is it just that qsuite needs to be on for this particular drive only?
BTW, I don't use qsuite for any of the drives; why would only this one be affected?Comment

the overspeed/qsuite probably glitches on the drive when it's been on the controller card?
I set it to ide 1 master since I have been doing all the troubleshooting.Comment

Night & Chewy;
I left overspeed/qsuite turned on, the drive was showing the proper burn speeds in imgburn. But, when I tried to burn a disc, I still get the same "Invalid address for write" error. I am using the same discs in my other 3 drives successfully.
It looks to me like this drive is bad...do you fellows agree?Comment

Unfortunantly no, night.
This burn was attempted with the drive on ide 1 on the mainboard. I have had it on ide 1 the whole time that we have been trying to get this resolved. I flashed the firmware with it on there, etc.
I only had in on the controller card when I first installed it, before I really started to use it & noticed there was a problem. Sorry if I confused you.

I would return it and get money back, if you can get another retail insteed, you may also want to flash firm ware now when it is on the MB only
Good luck with looking for the new drive, I still think it is one of the best burner out theresigpicComment

Thanks night & chewy for working on this with me. I suspected that the drive was bad, but I wanted to confirm it, since there are no more? 1655s avail., & now I will have to "settle" for an inferior unit!
Back to newegg with it on Monday!
