My DVD player won't read my DVD-Rs... going nuts.

Hello! I'm not really sure if I'm asking in the right category, but I don't really see where my problem is (wheter it's a hardware or software related issue). Well anyway, here it goes:

Almost 2 years ago, I bought a new computer wich came with a DVD recorder (said to record any type of media, including dual layer). I used a DVD-R the first time I burnt a movie on a DVD, and the recording went just fine. The DVD could be read in my computer (I think I was using CloneDVD at that time). The thing is whenever I took the disc to my standalone DVD Player (the one plugged to the TV), it would just eject it. It would try to read for a few seconds, and then eject it. I did a few more trials with no success, and somehow ended up trying with a DVD+R, and this worked wonderfully. So I decided that either my player or my burner could only handle DVD+Rs and that was that. I was never much of DVD burning maniac anyway.

However, I have been planning to start making a DVD library at home, and I've recently run out of DVD+Rs, and these are quite hard to get around where I live. People only have DVD-R, and they all keep saying to me that +R are useless and that I must be doing something wrong. Probably.

Besides, both my DVD Player, an X-View RG-959 and my DVD burner, apparently an ATAPI DVD DD 2X16X4X16; claim to be hable to handle both -R and +R. When I bought them, both also claimed to be multi-region, but I'm not that sure about that. Whatsmore, I have played many DVD-Rs in my DVD player, either rented or recorded by friends.

I have done two more trials with DVD-Rs today, one using Nero 6 and the other using DVDDecrypter. Both work on my PC, neither work on the DVD player.

Maybe it has something to do with the regions? But shouldn't that have been fixed by DVDDecyrpter? I'm really not sure if I'm doing something awfully wrong, all the burning programs I used didn't have that many options to fiddle with.

This last time I've been using Verbatim discs, but I haven't had any luck with other brands either.

I don't know, I'm going crazy... I would really appreciate it if anybody could provide some insight... Thank you very much.

    Leo.

that's a benq 1620 and should burn verbatims very well at 8X

your firmware is way out of date
you need G7V9 for your oem model

after extracting boot into safe mode and update the empty drive

you can use nero infotool to get us the mid code(manufacturer id) after the firmware update on those dvd-r's

your standalone may just not like dvd-r's, whether the maker claims it does or not

get us a new burn log of a dvd-r after the firmware upgrade

OK, I'll try that. Just one silly question... should my burner have Benq written somewhere? Because it doesn't...

I'll let you know as soon as I manage.

      Thank you very much!

Oh and I forgot, my standalone player does read DVD-R... It's read hundreds of them, from my local rent-store and recorded by friends.

Oh, ok. Thanks for clearing that up.

So... it's done. Just upgraded it. Here's the new Infotool report (is that what you mean by burn log?):

Oh, the drivers' section of the Infotool report just won't fit in a post, please let me know if you need any specific part.

              Thanks again.

You are fine, I would test those burns in another standalone, if you can't find verbatim dvd+r's to use I would buy another dvd player

I would also reccomend uninstalling INCD and using the clean tool just to be safe, it was never intended for windows xp

It works!!!! Thank you so much, I can barely explain the peace of mind that you have awarded me...

Just done a final trial after having done everything you recommended, and it worked perfectly this time. I had totally lost my hope... Thanks again, I wish I could return you the favour somehow. Just let me know.

                            Cheers.
