where am i going wrong?

currently using RipIt4Me, DVDdecrypter, DVD Shrink as per the guide. About 95% of my films go the PC ok, become encoded ready for burning. Once burnt the discs don't seem to play in any of my dvd players.

I get all manner of messages from "dirty disc" to "damaged disc" etc, the disks are brand new and the images all look fine when doing the movie preview. If i dont get a disc message then the disc jumps after about 10 minutes!!

So far i have only managed to get one working back-up.

anybody throw any ideas my way?

Seems like a burning issue. Read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

I failed at tip 1 - my media is top of rank 4!!!

Not sure how to check the firmware for my current drive as i cant get a specific name for it from My Computer

Points 3 and 4 followed and were set up correctly.

So the chances are it's the media - which i can change tomorrow, anybody have any ideas on how to check the firmware - pc's arent my thing!!

If you use dvd decrypter open it and goto tools\drive\ check for firmware updates
If you use imgburn it's the same as DVD Decrpter

last silly question (i hope)

dvd decrypter says my firmware is TS04, when typing the details in the search box the firm ware goes up to TS12. So do i select that one? assuming its the latest one?

8 updates behind, hope they got it right this time


TS12, download into a new folder on your desktop, download the flash utility, same place, boot into safe mode and execute the utility, show it the bin file and flash the empty drive

Not exactly the greatest drive. But let's hope your firmware update and media change does the trick.

right click on an empty spot on your desktop, new/folder, move them there

cant seem to get this to work properly!!

i get the pc into safe mode, open the folder on the desktop and run the flash utility, after the warning prompt it asks if i want to continue then doesnt seem to do anything.

i have tried opening the BIN file with the utility but that doesn't work either, i have also tried dragging and dropping - doesn't work either!!

be easier to get a new drive i think!!

is the firmware likely to be a major contributer to the problems i have encountered?

downloads all done and firmware now upgraded (to TS12).

also getting some new media today - found a local shop that stocks the decent TDK ones so will pick up a few of those.

worse case scenario.....

if these tweaks or changes don't have the desired results, is it time to change the drive?
