Update your firmware - see http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2209. I'm not sure where you got that firmware version (1823) from, but it looks wrong.

Change to Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blanks.

Check your DMA. Also, your buffers emptied, which should not normally be an issue, but try to leave your PC alone while burning.

I was reading the instruction on the Golden rules of burning error messages and following along with the steps. I noticed that i have 2 Primary IDE Channel items under the IDE ATA/ATAPI. I attached a screen shot...

I believe my drive is ASUS E616P3H - I find a firmware for ASUS E616P3 (no h at the end)... is it safe to use it?

I really have trouble now, did the firmware update, now the computer does not recognize my drive error - no recordable device detected.

Your drive is an LG GWA4166B - why haven't you follwed the link I gave in post 31?

That's what I did... now the drive is listed as a cd-r - I may go to the HP help website and see if they can help or explain why it didn't work properly. thanks...

My burner is toast, the firmware is somehow corrupted and my options are a full recovery of my system and set it back to factory settings, however HP support said that might not work for the drive. Other option is to buy a new DVD/RW drive. Can anyone recommend a brand, speed for me? And I was thinking of getting an external one, so I would not have to have computer store install it. Would appreciate your feedback.

My burner is working.. thanks to someone on the forum who said that HP or microsoft is the reason my DVD-RW went to CD-R when I inserted a disk, I guess their way to make us use their software programs. Anyway, I burned music just fine. I went back once again to try the DVD again. It ran great for a while, then i got a message Unable to lock volume, so found some forum posts about Process Explorer, used that to find out that ripit4me was listed as well as imgburn. I stopped ripit4me.. and it started burning, however, it stopped again, with this msg...Invalid address for write. Any ideas? Do I need to start the whole process over or is there a way to fix this error and move on with the burn? Thanks so much!

I also went to device manager and made sure the primary and secondary devices were set to "DMA if available"...

Well, no one is responding to my posts.. oh well, if anyone is interested to know what I did to solve, for future reference, I spent 3 weeks, late nights trying to get IMGburn to work, for some reason it doesn't work for me. I think I got every error message known. One problem would be fixed and then another error message. After researching tons of websites I thought I'd try Nero, since I already have it on pc, I burned image to disc, selected my ISO file and it burn successfully. Thanks for your time.
