    Nero won't burn at 6x

I have a problem burning DVDs. I've burned a bunch in the past, and haven't had a problem, until recently. NERO will tell me the burn failed at 6x. It will, however, burn successfully at 4x... But it doesn't always allow me to burn at 4x in the drop down menu.. In fact, it hasn't given me the option to burn at 4x for quite some time now. I tried burning with DVD Decryptor, and I succesfully made 1 DVD, but it's not working anymore....

Furthermore, I have tried to update my Burner's Firmware and it gives me this message: "No Matched Drive Detected! This utility is only for Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1693S drive. Detected drives 1-0-1-0 D:Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1693S KC4B" Well, my burner is the LITE-ON SoHW-1693, so I don't know how to update this... Thanks in Advance!!

    This is my Firmware error...

and THIS is my DVDDecrypter error

Insert your disc into the drive while at the speed choice screen. Wait for Nero to recognize it. Then it will allow you to pick the recommended speeds for that disc.

BTW: Keep your firmware up to date as this will give you the best write strategies for each MID. See my signature for the links.

Go here & type in DVDRW SOHW-1693S. You can also check for firmware updates through Dvd Decrypter. I would also suggest looking at ImgBurn for your burning needs & as it's Dvd Decrypters burn engine updated, you can also check for firmware updates through it. Notice I said burning, it does not replace Dvd Decrypter for ripping.

        Thanks Gary and Soup.

Gary - I've tried that, it still only lets me choose from 6x to 16x. Every once in a while it'll let me choose 4x and I'll get a succesfull burn, but recently if I try to burn at 6x it'll fail.

Soup - Thanks for the advice, I'll try Imgburn. I've read about it and didn't know if it was worth it.

Soup and Gary - I've tried to install the current Firmware, and it still gives me that error. I think the current Firmware might be the problem. Is there any way to roll back the current Firmware installation or modify the current Firmware so that it'll let the newest Firmware update do it's magic?

Did you flash from safe mode with no disc in drive?

I used to had that drive, if you buy 16x rate the lowest speed you can burn is 6x, you can either buy old media ( 8x or lower) or buy a new drive

Well, it's worked before, which leads me to believe that it will work again. It burns succesfully at 6x about 40% of the time... How do I flash the Drive?

(also, the first time I used DVD Decrypter, it worked. I've tried to burn with it twice since then, and it fails.)

Well, let us update your Nero.

If you want to burn directly with DVD Shrink, then upgrade to 6.6.0.18.

Otherwise upgrade to to 6.6.1.4 and burn manually with Nero.

Both links are in my signature.

well that's a serial/sata 200 gig hard drive, not sure what kind of driver it has tho

                        the winaspi needs to go
let's try a little overhaul of the PC
see the sticky on freeing resources in general computing
                        let's try this cleaner

and kill the aspi with this

let's also see what's hosing the bus?

I would reccomend running the clean tool before reinstalling nero and/or updating it

take your time and kill the aspi and possible roxio

and then reboot and post that bus info

your drive may be dying, but at least a new one will go into a healthier computer
