wonder why it's showing as slave on the secondary ide by itself tho?

actually, i was wondering the same thing...and i don't know how to switch it...or if it was switched at all. it was working so fine until recently...and it hasn't even been a year since we got it....so i don't really know

and a 3 year old burner whose newest firmware is over 2 years old

and in dvd time, that's old

check and make sure the drive is connected to the end of the cable

and the drive is jumpered master

now if you feel certain the drive isn't worn out then update the firmware
from safe mode with the drive empty

don't attempt any flash in it's present state

make sure all cables are seated well(plugged in tight)
