destroying dvd-rw

Lately I have been going through a lot of dvd-rw's. My standard practice is to burn to a dvd-rw then if i like the item ,I'll copy it to dvd-r. But recently the dvd-rws are being destroyed (wont play, wont erase , play but can not be overwritten... ) Any ideas?

It takes time to erase a DVD-RW and to copy to a DVD-R. DVD+-R discs are cheap these days, should burn it straight to DVD-R or else, try a different DVD-RW.
