There is a new firmware update. ImgBurn / Tools / Drive / Check for Firmware updates. If you choose to flash, do it from safe mode with no disc in drive. Also this might come in handy for +R media.

        Thanks Soup and Chewy.

No luck so far updating firmware on ImageBurn - the site seems to be down. I'll try flashing the DVD firmware, but I'm pretty much resolved to getting a new burner. The Benq 1650V is VERY reasonably priced, and if it's good enough for Chewy....

This whole process has been quite a learning experience!

Chewy has better advice, but just curious did you open your ImgBurn (program) then Tools, Drive, Check for Firmware Updates? I just tried that & it worked fine.

              Success !!

Chewy, Soup, Calimari, Night Train - thanks so much for your patience, and your tips. Believe it or not, I had absolutely no idea that my problem could be with my burner/media. I know, I'm an idiot. In any event, installed a new burner (LiteOn SHM-165H6S), and used Verbatim media. Burned with ImageBurn instead of my usual Nero. Flawless burn. I've much to learn, but I'm on my way.

              Thanks again.
