DVDs play on PC, not on player :-(

Hi all, first post, so please be understanding if I talk crap. I've done a bit of a search but can’t find anything authoritative on this problem. Take a drink, this is going to go on for a while.

I used to use Roxio (spit) until I learned the error of my ways, but still have some copies of DVDs I tried to make with it, which stutter/freeze etc when I try to play them. I thought to myself, why not (as part of my learning process) see if I can run them through RipIt4Me, then DVDdecrypter, then burn new copies with DVDshrink, to see if that would produce usable DVDs.

Interestingly, the resultant DVDs play without fault on Windows Media Player... but aren’t recognised at all as having any content when I put them in my Yamada DVD Player (with internal hard disk and burning capability). It just throws its navigational menu up, with one entry called “Video Disk”, which won’t play or recognise under any circumstances. It’s otherwise very tolerant of different types of media etc.

Is there something fundamental I need to learn here about how DVD directories etc work? Somewhere I can begin to look for problems? I’d like to learn more about how all this works.

    Thanks!

Sorry my friend, I should have said it's Nero 6.6! And no, I haven't got a log - is it in somewhere like \Application data\Nero?

And why is my original message full of strange smiley faces!!!

          Thanks...

Thanks for that, I'll do another copy tonight and post the log

Difficult for someone like me to understand how it's a burning problem when it works OK in Media Player - but then, if I knew what I was talking about, I wouldn't be asking!

              I've only got 4X

              - but think I already tried 1X, just to see...

Have you tried to play the burned disc in another stand alone player?

Thanks - will if I can get to someone else's. Unfortunately I haven't got another one myself!

could try better media, not much hope for that old drive tho

I would suggest a new drive before spending a lot of money on blanks

                        Book Type: DVD+R
Could be the Book Type as well .... I have a player that won't play +R, older unit, Sampo (piece of junk, in son's room). You could try another burn and change the boolk type, that might work ?

                        Regards

Thanks guys... thing is, DVD+R are what's recommended for the Yamada thingy, or do you mean I shouldn't use them in this burner maybe?

I wish I understood some of the fundamentals better… like it seems to be a directory issue or something – I’ve tried DVD-R, RW etc, but same result. I’m not even that bothered about copying this movie (Battle Royale, BTW) – I’d just like to understand better what’s (not) going on, so that I can learn more about all this.

                          What’s a “book type”?<o></o>

You could always read The Golden Rules. What's a Booktype? Also check out ImgBurn for burning when you get the other stuff sorted out.

Those smilies are a result of typing your post into MS WORD first and then copy and pasting it. I am I right?
