DVD protection hole?

DVD protection hole?

I have a personal DVD I would like to back up. However, I noticed that the people who filmed it made a tiny hole (like done with a needle) close to the outer edge.
They say that it is to avoid people copying it and if we would try, it will ruin our DVD player.
Can that be so?

Well, how you gunna play the original then if that is so?

You will encounter bad sectors because the disk is physically defective, but in areas where there is no useful data.

Give it a try with RipIt4Me.
