on my 16x i never get a steady speed its always bouncing from about 8x-12x

that's a rebrand, memorex doesn't make burners so you have no idea what's in it? bad firmware support and probably won't be able to bitsett dvd+r's
can i just unplug my usb2 cord and hook up the firewire cord that came with it and get faster speeds?Comment

i have a 8x internal burner and a 16x external burner and i just pluged up the firewire cable and its burning a little bit faster

I'm using this one as an external...
So far it has been very reliable.
I've not run any tests on it, but I haven;t had any coasters..which is mot important to me.
Doing a fast burn isn't really my concern..I'm happy with 8X.....
I have 2 internals and this one for a backup or to carry along with me, if the need should arise.
