it's a an oem(not open box) burner they put in a retail enclosure

your comstar link was for usb2 only(cheap) and an open box with 15 day doa

the burner sells for 40$ at new egg, a decent usb2/firewire enclosure 30-40$

that's a rebrand, memorex doesn't make burners so you have no idea what's in it? bad firmware support and probably won't be able to bitsett dvd+r's

And how do you know when they are a rebrand?

And do you have any other suggestions for burners what ever the cost is?

if you don't have firewire on your computer then you would need a card,
why don't you just get an internal burner

I'm using this one as an external...

So far it has been very reliable.
I've not run any tests on it, but I haven;t had any coasters..which is mot important to me.
Doing a fast burn isn't really my concern..I'm happy with 8X.....
I have 2 internals and this one for a backup or to carry along with me, if the need should arise.
