The Prestige -problem on DVD playback

I backed up this movie with seemingly no problems yet it won't play in my DVD player.
    -plays on computer OK
    -used Ripit4Me, 1-click
-tried again using ISO into Shrink and burned again with ImageBurn, still nothing in DVD player

Here is the RI4M log and can someone please check it out and advise if something went wrong with the burn..Thanks

Chewy you have an awesome memory and yes I'm still using the same blanks with hardly any problems. Will change to better media as soon as I finished my supply. Firmware update makes me nervous as I've never did it before and afraid to screw up something. Any comments on the log?...Frank

        let's fill in some blanks
the finished files play fine before burning?(on the computer)
the burned disks play fine on the computer?

if both are a yes then it's likely that it's a burning problem

have you tried the disks in another standalone?

the reason LG put out so many firmware upgrades was to improve burning on dvd's
yours was the original and usually had some real issues Oct 29, 2004
Jan 09, 2006 the last one just put the finishing touchs on a great burner(improved dvd-r writting)

it's quite safe if you do it right

I have had mine, bought refurbished? for almost 2 years and 3-4 firmware flashes and hundreds of burns, best reader I have ever used

I honestly felt exactly the same way before my first flash, scared to death & then when I saw that warning pop up (WHOA) but I managed to get through it thanks to encouragement from folks here. BTW I am not saying I don't have those exact same feelings even although I now have a few flashes under my belt, they are still there before I do it. The guy that put my current rig together & who works in the business, doesn't phase him a bit, everytime he installs a burner & it has a firmware upgrade, he just flashes (everything running, nothing disabled). Now I don't recommend that, I go with the method most mentioned here, (safe mode, no disc in drive).

Ok, Ok..but can you help me out on a step by step guide to updating the firmware? I read where I need to make sure it's plugged by itself into the primary IDE channel and don't know what that means or what the newest update is and where to get it..Thanks

see the sticky about getting into safe mode in general computing, that's essential

safe mode disables dma and any funky ide drivers that can hose the flash

make sure the drive is empty, that's the easy part(i have flashed twice with my LG and had disks in the drive, I just reflashed when I realized what I had done

the rest is simple just download the latest firmware(106)

                  HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B A101
                  from your log last december

your burner's firmware page, download 106, extract it to your desktop

                  Destination Device: [0:0:0]
you are good to go with the drive as it is cabled now(that's not really an issue unless you have 2 lg drives or it's sharing a cable with some real cruddy
                  device)

boot into safe mode, execute the flash and wait for it to finish

                  reboot

don't turn off the power during the flash

lot easier than backing up a dvd

Before I do this I also have a:

LG CD/DVD ROM drive (see attach. file) and does this change anything going forward. Can you see how this drive is cabled if not what can I supply you with to verify my system setup? thanks for your help...Frank

it might be a good idea to disconnect the power to the dvd-rom drive

probably not necessary but lg would reccomend it

Hi Chewy, guess what...I did it. I flashed my cd/dvd drive to A106 (See attach screen shot) pretty cool and easy, I'm glad you talked me into it. Now can I go back and use the same ISO file and try a re-burn to see if that fixes the problem?...Thanks for all your help...Frank

the iso plays fine from the harddrive I hope, otherwise it might have been another problem

always get the firmware issue solved first tho
